It's important to convert your tapes to DVD's, as VHS tapes degrade slightly each year, even if they're not used. An average tape will last only about 20 years. Don't take any chances with your family's home recordings - get them converted to DVD as soon as possible so future generations can enjoy them also!

DVD's will last indefinitely, can be copied with no loss of quality (they are digital vs. analog), and do not wear with each use as a tape does. They are much easier to view as they allow you to jump anywhere quickly (no more fast forwarding or rewinding).
